Drop Wrist

Wrist drop is a condition resulting from radial nerve palsy. The radial nerve controls the extensor muscles in the wrist and digits. When this nerve is affected, individuals may struggle to actively extend their wrist and fingers.

Consequently, when attempting to bring the arm to a horizontal position, the hand hangs limp in a flexed position. The wrist also tends to stay partially flexed due to the opposing action of the forearm’s flexor muscles. This paralysis primarily affects the extensor muscles located in the posterior compartment of the forearm.
